The Public Historical Library of Andritsaina is a Legal Entity subject to the Ministry of Education, according to Law 3149/10.06.2003 “National Library of Greece, Public Libraries and other provisions”. It is housed in a neoclassical building at the eastern entrance of the city.
The collection today includes the remarkable collections of “Konstantinos – Agathofronas Nikolopoulos”, with rare versions of the early years of printing, and “Evangelos Kallianiotis”; also, it includes an exhibition of plasters casts from the frieze of the Temple of Apollo Epicurius (donation from the British Museum in 1963), and an historical archive with manuscripts from the Greek Revolution and the post-revolution period.
In the library there is a daily open study room, lending department and Information Centre.
The Library is open to the public from Tuesday to Saturday from 8.00 till 14.00 hours.
Mission – Objectives
The Public, Historical Library of Andritsaina is a contact and information centre, providing a variety of services through its respective sections. In response to any informational, informative, educational and cultural needs of the public, the library maintains archival material (newspapers, magazines, etc.) including material published in regard with the history of this place, covering any need for information arising at a local level.
It makes constant efforts to promote book reading and transmit knowledge, always aiming at the preservation and promotion of the local cultural heritage, supporting educational practice, accomplishing objectives set by the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, as well as offering new technologies to the users. It participates in the implementation of European Union programs, such as “Information Society”.
